Domestic Violence Suspect Sustains “In-Custody” Death

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A domestic violence suspect died Sunday morning by going into cardiac arrest after being detained by police officers, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

At approximately 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 3rd, police responded to Palm Breeze Lane in west Charlotte in connection to a welfare check.

When officers arrived, the suspect had left the house. Police say the initial investigation found that the suspect was involved in a domestic violence incident and fired a weapon multiple times prior to leaving the scene.

Police say they found the suspect’s car one street over on Windy Valley Drive after he crashed the car into multiple vehicles and broke into a residence.

Upon approaching him, police say they called Medic due to the suspect “acting erratically.”

During Medic’s assessment, the suspect went into cardiac arrest. Police say the suspect was transported to Atrium Main where he was pronounced dead.
