“He Needs To Learn”; 19 Year Old Suspect In Court After Shooting 14 Year Old

CHARLOTTE- 19 year old Myhijee Major is charged with involuntary manslaughter, after police say he shot 14 year old Johnnie McClendon Sunday night. Major’s new gun that he got just that day apparently jammed and went off.

Major has pending charges already, including larceny, possession of a stolen car and firearm and more.

Major’s mother told the judge her son is a “a good kid” who has made some bad decisions and is trying to find his way.

The state asked the judge to not allow majors to be released on bond. The judge denied that request, citing her concern with a procedural issue with Major’s attorneys. She set a secure bond at 250,000 dollars. His family will only have to post 25,000 dollars to get him out.

Majors family declined to speak with media after court. The victims family did.

“Even though we did lose my cousin, which I really do feel bad about that because he was only 14, he his life was cut so short, but at the end of the day, we lost two lives because he was only 19,” said cousin Jaquan McClendon. “So he’s going to have to probably spend his life in prison. So at the end of the day, he’s going to learn his lesson. I know he’s beating himself up about it, but I don’t I don’t want us to keep attacking him, especially since he’s already beating himself up about something that he didn’t mean to do.”

Major’s next court appearance is December 22nd.
