Suspect Taken Into Custody Following Brief Standoff With Police In Plaza Midwood

CHARLOTTE N.C. – A suspect was taken into custody following a standoff with police officers that were attempting to serve a warrant, according to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

At 2:55 p.m. on Wednesday, December 6th, police arrived at Mitchell Wade’s residence at 1409 Hamorton Place near Central Avenue to execute a warrant for communicating threats.

Wade allegedly threatened police officers there that he would shoot anyone on his property. Deputies created a perimeter around the home before evacuating nearby residences and citizens.

The Crisis Negotiations Unit and Sheriff’s Response Team were dispatched.

Negotiators continued to work with Wade, but talks eventually stalled. At this time, police decided to enter Wade’s residence and safely apprehend the suspect.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m., Wade was taken into custody without further incident.

Authorities say nobody was injured during this incident.
