LINCOLNTON, N.C. – Police are investigating the cause and identity of the skeletal remains found in a wooded area in northeastern Lincoln County.
Deputies were dispatched to a wooded area off Lee Lawing Road just before 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 27th.
Police say they were notified from a Dollar General employee that was told by a customer that he believed he found a human skull while walking through the wooded area.
When officers arrived at the scene, they spotted additional skeletal remains of an individual.
Police sent the remains to the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death and identity.
