LINCOLNTON, N.C. – One person died and another was sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries following a head-on accident on US 321 on Sunday morning.
The crash occurred on US 321 near Bethel Church Road at approximately 2:20 a.m. on Sunday, December 31st.
Police say a 2018 Honda Civic was allegedly traveling in the wrong direction on US 321 north. The driver struck a 2018 Toyota RAV4 head-on in the right northbound lane.
The Civic driver, identified as 25-year-old Liannet Russiel Urgelles, died at Atrium Lincoln as a result of their injuries.
Medical personnel transported the RAV4 driver, identified as 21-year-old Vanessa Ramos-Zuniga, to CaroMont Regional Medical Center. She was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say intoxication was not a contributing factor in the initial investigation. Both parties were wearing their seatbelts, and no charges will be filed at this time, according to a news release.
The road re-opened two hours later following the on-site investigation.
