CHARLOTTE, N.C. β An 18-year-old pedestrian was killed by a car after a hit-and-run in east Charlotte overnight, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.
Mariela Elizabeth Sanchez Gutierrez, 18, was identified as the victim. Authorities say the incident occurred around 12:08 a.m. along North Sharon Amity Road near Albemarle Road.
Police say they found a female pedestrian laying in the road with life-threatening injuries. When medic arrived, they pronounced her dead at the scene at 12:15 a.m.
The driver that hit Gutierrez failed to provide aid and left the scene.Β
The initial investigation found that Gutierrez was walking in a crosswalk when she was hit by the vehicle, according to a news release.
