Man Charged With Murder, Kidnapping In Catawba County Domestic Dispute

NEWTON, N.C. – Deputies have arrested a 47-year-old man following a homicide investigation in Catawba County.

Wilbern Carlos Springs has been charged with murder and first-degree kidnapping.

Yolanda Burrell has been identified as the victim.

Police say both were residing at the home on Deal Road at the time of Burrell’s death.

Springs is currently being held without bond. He has a court date on Monday, January 8th.

NEWTON, N.C. – The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a homicide investigation after a woman reportedly died following a domestic dispute.

Officers responded to a residence off Deal Road for a reported domestic dispute on Saturday, January 6th.

Upon arrival, officers ran into an armed male that retreated back into the residence when police attempted to question him.

Police say that the male they initially encountered told a family member that another person was dead inside the home.

Officers entered the residence and discovered a female dead at the scene.

The male that police encountered is being treated at a local hospital for his injuries.
