NC Schools Announce Closing And Remote Learning Schedules Due To Severe Weather

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Due to severe weather alerts for Tuesday, January 9th, all Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will be closed for students tomorrow.

There will be no school and no remote learning. There will be no ASEP, no extracurricular activities or sports. Students who were to be recognized at the Board of Education meeting at 6 p.m. should not attend. Those students will be recognized at a future meeting.

  • Caldwell County Schools
  • Cleveland County Schools
  • Iredell-Statesville Schools
  • Kannapolis City Schools
  • Lincoln County Schools
  • Mooresville Graded School District
  • Stanly County Schools
  • Union County Public Schools

The following counties will conduct remote learning:

  • Ashe County Schools
  • Burke County Schools
  • Catawba County Schools
  • Chester County Schools
  • Chesterfield County Schools
  • Clover Schools
  • Fort Mill Schools
  • Gaston County Schools
  • Lancaster County Schools
  • Newton-Conover City Schools
  • Richmond County Schools
  • Rock Hill Schools
  • Rowan-Salisbury Schools
  • York County Schools

2-Hour Delay:

  • Avery County Schools
  • Watauga County Schools

CMS released the following statement:

“The National Weather Service is calling for high wind gusts of 45-55 mph, tornadic activity and heavy, flooding rain which can cause hazardous conditions for bus transportation services and lead to safety concerns for our students and families. As always, the safety and well-being of our students and staff are of the utmost importance. We appreciate your cooperation and patience. Remember schools will be closed for students on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024. Thank you for your support of CMS.”
