More Arctic air will be here soon
Tonight will be another very cold night
Another bitter cold night is on the way
Temperatures recover a bit into the second half of the workweek but another blast of Arctic air will be here on Saturday
Our average high in mid January is 51. We will struggle to get there in the next few days. We will gradually be near 50° in the Metro by the end of the workweek. We’ll need to watch for a weak disturbance that sweeps into the Carolinas late Thursday into early Friday, but impacts appear to be minor for now. That said, a light wintry mix is possible north of I-40 early Friday morning before clearing arrives after sunrise.
Another rush of cold air shuts the door on any prolonged warm-up by the weekend. Lows will return to well below normal values as we wake up on Saturday. Highs may only end up a few degrees above freezing for the first half of the weekend as temperatures crash into the teens and single digits across our area Saturday night. Near-average conditions return by the start of the next workweek.
