Mad Monster Event In Concord Plans To Host Kevin Spacey, Some Attendees “Dumbfounded”

CONCORD, NC – The Mad Monster Party in Concord is a three-day convention dedicated to all things horror and pop culture.

Some fans of the event, like Will Kinsler, are at a loss for words after finding out about this years celebrity guest.

“I was dumbfounded, right? Shocked. I was disappointed immediately. It doesn’t make me interested in attending this time or ever again,” says Kinsler.

Kevin Spacey will be joining the event this year. According to CNN, Spacey has been cleared after a lengthy sexual assault trial in London after multiple people came forward with sexual assault allegations.

“To invite somebody with these sort of allegations of sexual misconduct surrounding them into what feels like our home of our community, you know, it was really concerning,” says Kinsler.

He tells WCCB’s Emma Mondo that he and others voiced their concerns about Spacey on the convention’s social media page. He says the comments were deleted by Mad Monster, or people were blocked. Kinsler was one of the ones who was blocked after making his own post about the situation.

“It feels like a little bit of a betrayal, right?” Kinsler says. “I just wanted to tell them I don’t think that this is right and I don’t like it. And now they’ve kind of taken my voice away from me.”

Kinsler says that the celebrity addition does not represent the convention well.

“I’d hate for people to see this, that don’t know that and feel like we’re a different kind of community than we are,” Kinsler says, “and that we would welcome somebody in our community that’s accused of doing the things that he’s doing is disappointing for me, that somebody might find that that’s a reflection on us. And I want people to know that that’s not the case at all.”
