Neighbors Terrified After Multiple Homes Shot Into: “I Didn’t Think It Was Going To Stop”
CHARLOTTE – Gunfire ringing through one northwest Charlotte neighborhood early Tuesday morning on Crandon Drive. Latoya Williams tells me she has lived on this street since last mothers day.
She was home asleep with her husband and three of her kids down the hall when the shooting began.
“All I can do is just hold my breath and pray that my kids didn’t get hit in the room that they’re at on that side,” she said.
Luckily, Williams’ house was on the side of the street where the shooters were pointing away from, so her home didn’t get hit.
The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police say 23 people total were in the houses that were shot into. One person whose home was riddled with bullets showed WCCB’s Emma Mondo where the bullets came through.
Just four miles away, another shooting into an occupied home happened just after 3am on Trullium Fields Drive. We have no word on if the two shooting are related.
CMPD’s 2023 end of year crime report showed there were over 1,300 calls for shootings into occupied properties last year. That was up 58% from 2022.
