CHERRYVILLE, N.C. – A Cherryville police officer was involved in a shooting that resulted in one death, according to a news release.
On February 4th, 2024, the release states that two Cherryville police officers responded to a disturbance call involving a man and a fight ensued between the man and the two officers after he was approached.
Police claim that the suspect grabbed a pipe after assaulting one of the officers several times, resulting in an officer firing a single shot. The suspect was then taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the release.
The officer’s involved have been placed on administrative duties while the investigation of the incident is reviewed by the State Bureau of Investigation.
