Fentanyl Investigation In Rowan County

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. – Over 500 grams of fentanyl recovered in a long-term investigation in Rowan County, according to a news release.

The release states that in summer of 2023, a long-term investigation of the distribution of fentanyl began in Rowan County by the Sheriff’s Office, State Bureau of Investigation and Office of Homeland Security Investigations.

The Sheriff’s Office claims that the investigation resulted in the arrest of Anthony Angle, 53, and was charged with two counts of trafficking over 100 grams of fentanyl.

In January 2024, 37-year-old relative of Angle, Antonio Morris, was arrested after fleeing from a vehicle stop and 400 grams of fentanyl were recovered in the pursuit after being thrown out of the vehicle by Morris, according to deputies. Morris was charged with two counts of trafficking in fentanyl, maintaining a vehicle for storing a controlled substance, fleeing to elude arrest, attempting to destroy evidence and conspiracy to traffic fentanyl with Angle.

Angle was charged with an additional county of conspiracy to traffic fentanyl with Morris after the Morris arrest, stated by Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.

Both Angle and Morris were placed in Rowan County Detention Center, with the former having a secured bond of $525,000 and the later having a secured bond of $700,000, according to the release.
