Sunny Skies Survive Through Midweek

Temperatures remain near average today but will begin to soar as we head into the weekend.

Happy Hump Day! Our first Wednesday of February is off to a frigid start as lows have dipped into the 20s and 30s this morning across our area. Expect temperatures to end up in near-normal territory with highs in the 40s and 50s this afternoon. Clouds will be few and far between for a second straight day; enjoy the abundance of blue skies while they last. Winds shift from more of a southerly direction by Thursday afternoon, allowing for even warmer highs in the 50s and 60s to take hold of the Carolinas. Unfortunately, more clouds build in by Thursday night. Our final day of the workweek is trending overcast – but remaining quite warm as highs around the Metro and southward approach the mid-60s.

Despite the increase in cloud coverage, rain chances remain minimal through the remainder of the workweek. However, that changes by Saturday night as a rainmaking system slides in from the southwest. Expect scattered showers to arrive overnight into Sunday morning, lasting throughout much of the day. It won’t be a complete washout, but your outdoor plans will be served better earlier rather than later this weekend. Another more significant system rides in on the first storm’s coattails and will bring heavier rain to our area on Monday and Tuesday. After a mild start, the latter half of next week will feel much more like winter.
