South Carolina Man Charged For Cashing Altered Checks

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. – A South Carolina man is facing four felony charges after cashing altered checks from businesses in Iredell County, according to a news release.

Timothy Scott Pratt, 33, has been charged with two counts of obtaining property by false pretense and two counts of forgery. The crimes took place between December 20th, 2023 and January 27th, 2024.

The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office obtains reports from a local business about a stolen check. The business owner told police that the check was sent in the mail but was stolen and cashed by an unauthorized person.

Detectives obtained bank records and observed video surveillance to identify Pratt as the suspect. Video surveillance allegedly shows Pratt passing altered checks at a check cashing business on two separate occasions.

Police arrested Pratt on Thursday, February 1st after he attempted to cash another altered check in Mooresville.

Pratt is being held at the Iredell County Detention Center with a $350,500 bond.
