Driver Charged Five Months After Deadly Accident

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A driver is facing charges five months after a deadly crash on Carowinds Boulevard.

Angel McDuffie is accused of causing the death of a motorcyclist on Wednesday, September 13th, 2023. She has been charged with failure to yield the right of way and misdemeanor death by vehicle.

The crash occurred on Carowinds Boulevard at approximately 8:13 p.m.

When police arrived, they spotted two vehicles – a 1998 Honda Accord and a 2007 Harley Davidson – with extensive damage in the roadway. 

The motorcyclist, Jean Kelly Allen Jr., was transported to Atrium Health Main but died shortly after arriving. 

McDuffie sustained minor injuries in the crash.

Police did not say if speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.

This case remains an active and ongoing investigation.
