Taylor Swift And The Superbowl; How Does Her Presence Rake In Money?

LAS VEGAS –  Every week since September, millions of Swiftie’s across the globe have found a new hobby, football! All this thanks to singer songwriter Taylor Swift’s relationship with Kansas City Chiefs Tight End Travis Kelce.

Kelly Chavis and her daughter have been die hard Swiftie’s for years. Their love of swift has led them to also love Travis Kelce.

“It’s not because  just want to watch it just for Taylor Swift, it’s like I’m fully invested and in in him just as much,” says Chavis. “It was very much like, who is this guy? You’re going to find out everything about the guy that she’s dating.”

That is music to the NFL’s ears, because more fans means more money.

UNC Charlotte economics professor John Connaughton explains the business impact of the budding romance.

“I think what Taylor Swift’s relationship with Travis Kelce has produced is a link to new fans,  particularly female fans that would not otherwise watch Kansas City chiefs games or the Super Bowl.”

The NFL doesn’t show Swift at games for fun. They show Taylor Swift because it make them money. Since the power couple’s relationship went public, Travis Kelce’s jersey sales have skyrocketed by 400%. Apex marketing group says the Kansas City Chiefs’ brand value has increased by 331 million dollars. Which means this Super Bowl could set unimaginable records.

“I think the money is basically the number of people who watch the super bowl this year will probably be highest on record, both because of the compelling nature of the two teams involved, and then you throw Taylor Swift in on top of that,” says Connaughton, “I think you’ve got the ingredients to produce probably the highest viewership Super Bowl in history.”

Tickets for this years super bowl are averaging nearly 10,000 dollars. That’s 70 times more expensive than last year.

While that price tag has put the tickets to see Taylor at the big game out of reach for Chavis, she’s happy the world’s most talked about couple is doing something truly priceless: bringing her family together.

“It’s not because I’m watching it to see her. For some reason their relationship has really brought a new demographic to watching football that I actually am rooting for Kelce, and I’m rooting for Mahomes and I’m rooting for the Chiefs.”
