MORGANTON, N.C. – A woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Burke County on Friday night after driving at a high-rate of speed and crashing into several trees.
The crash occurred around 9:10 p.m. on US 64 near Fisher Davis Road on Friday, February 9th.
Authorities say a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze was traveling south on US 64. The driver, Stephanie Talmelia Woods, 39 of Rutherfordton, drove off the right side of the road and struck several trees.
Woods died at the scene as a result of her injuries in the crash.
Excessive speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
