Pedestrian Killed In Northwest Charlotte Crash

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A 71-year-old pedestrian was hit and killed by a vehicle in northwest Charlotte on Tuesday night.

It happened around 6:44 p.m. on Beatties Ford Road just north of Brookshire Freeway.

When police arrived, they say that a seriously injured pedestrian and a damaged Volkswagen Passat were in the roadway.

The pedestrian, identified as Lalla Habiba Alaoui Jamal, was transported to Novant Presbyterian Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Later that night at 11:08 p.m., Jamal died at the hospital as a result of the crash.

Amber Nicole Jones, the Volkswagen driver, remained on-scene and was not injured.

Police’s investigation indicates that Jamal was not in a crosswalk when she was attempting to cross Beatties Ford Road. Authorities say that neither speed or impairment were factors in the crash.

The crash is still under investigation. No charges have been filed.
