Charlotte, NC – Charlotte Mecklenburg Library hosts its fourth annual African American Read-In on Feb. 17 from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at Sugar Creek Charter School. This celebration is part of a national effort during Black History Month to encourage communities to read together, centering African American books and authors. This year’s theme is “Celebrating Literacy Through the Arts.”
This is a free, family-friendly event for all ages featuring live performances from the Carolina Panthers’ TopCats cheerleaders and others, nine author appearances, art activities and more, with food trucks on site.
In addition to several other community partners supporting the event, the Panthers donated raffle items and provided a financial grant to ensure all children will receive a free book at the read-in.
Authors appearing at the read-in include Dr. Janaka Lewis, Richye Porter, Shanai Byrd, Dr. Sakesha Caston, Connie Williams, Sierra Williams, Harrison Martin, Pearlie Massey and Aniesha Jackson.
