Charlotte Woman Charged With Insurance Fraud

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A Charlotte woman is facing one felony charge for insurance fraud related to a vehicle crash last year.

Peebles Laverne Love Johnson, 33, is accused of submitting a fraudulent claim to Sentry Insurance Company.

Johnson allegedly claimed that she was driving her Toyota Sequoia with a passenger when it was involved in a crash. However, it was determined that she was not in the vehicle at the time of the crash, according to the criminal summons.

β€œInsurance fraud is not a victimless crime,” Commissioner Causey said. β€œIt hits all of us in the pocket through higher premiums.”

The vehicle crash happened on May 29th, 2023. Johnson is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
