North Charlotte Rape Suspect Arrested

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Law enforcement arrested a man accused of raping a woman in north Charlotte last month.

On January 12th, it was reported that 34-year-old Julio Gomez-Avila broke into an apartment on East W.T. Harris Boulevard and allegedly sexually assault a woman. The suspect and victim knew each other, but Gomez-Avila allegedly used methods to hide his identity.

Police were alerted to a home off Glenville Avenue around 10 a.m. to arrest Gomez-Avila. He surrendered to officers after a short barricade situation, according to a news release.

Gomez-Avila has been charged with kidnapping, forcible rape, felony breaking and entering, and attempted armed robbery.
