Feeling Like Winter, Remaining Dry

Temperatures make a strong recovery by the end of the coming week.

Punxsutawney Phil has been proven right so far. Spring-like temperatures 5-10ΒΊ above average over the past week have been enough for trees and flowers to begin blooming over a month early. That said, winter brings us a sharp reminder that there are still over four weeks left in its tank. A widespread freeze is likely this Saturday night as lows dip into the 20s and teens for most across theΒ WCCB Charlotte viewing area. This would be a prime pattern for snow in the Carolinas, but there is no moisture available to us over the next five days.

Clouds stick around through the weekend as highs struggle to get much above 50ΒΊ across the Piedmont and Foothills on Sunday. More clearing arrives overnightΒ into Monday as more blue sky is expected by your Presidents’ Day. Another widespread freeze is in the forecast for Monday morning. Sunshine and southerly breezes will allow highs to quickly rebound into the 60s by midweek, possibly approaching 70ΒΊ by the end of the workweek. Another rainmaking system is poised to arrive by Friday, but it doesn’t look too impressive at the moment. However, it will bring more cold air – and some mountain snow – back into our area by next weekend.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy. Widespread freeze. Low: 31Β°. Wind: N 5-10.

Sunday: Partly sunny. Some clearing later in the day. High: 52Β°. Wind: SW 5-10.

Sunday Night: Clouds slowly clear overnight. Low: 31Β°. Wind: Light.

Presidents’ Day: Mostly sunny. Warmer. High: 58Β°. Wind: NE 5-10.
