Two-Year-Old Child Killed In Catawba County Crash

MAIDEN, N.C. – A two-year-old child was killed after being hit by a car in Catawba County on Saturday night, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

It happened on Buffalo Shoals Road and Abernathy Williams Road at around 7:30 p.m in Maiden, North Carolina. Police say the two year old was in the roadway and was struck by a 2001 Saturn sedan traveling south on Buffalo Shoals Road.

The child suffered critical injuries and was airlifted by a helicopter to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. The child died at the hospital.

Becky Stafford Gibson, 54, of Maiden, was driving the Saturn vehicle and was not injured.

Police say no charges will be filed against Gibson in this case.
