The release states that on March 20, 1971, an infant’s body was found at a local trash dumping site outside Granite Quarry. The medical examiner’s report stated the infant was stabbed in the head. Detectives claim they have not found anyone in the community that is able to recall proper details of the case.

Hair evidence has been recovered from the case and was sent to Astrea Forensics located in California which specializes in processing hair for DNA, as said by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.

The infant was named “Unknown Baby Girl Found in Trash Dump” in all previously official records and has now been given the name “Baby Eve” to give an official name to the case, according to the release. Eve translates to ‘life’ in Hebrew.

Rowan County detectives are being assisted by agents with the North Carolina SBI’s Cold Case Investigation Team and are currently waiting on results from the testing.
