STATESVILLE, N.C. – A woman is dead and two others are injured following a car crash in Statesville.
State troopers responded to the incident on US 70 near Fanjoy Road on Monday. According to a news release, A 2005 Hummer H2 was travleing Wast on US 70, crossed the center line, and Collided head-on with a westbound 2005 Honda Pilot.
The initial collision caused the Hummer to continue west bound and collide head on with a 2001 Ford F-350.
The driver of the Hummer, 20-year-old Lizbeth Mojica, was transported by EMS to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Pilot, Sandra Forney Jackson, 43, of Statesville, succumbed to her injuries at the scene. A juvenile passenger in the vehicle was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Ford, Alvin Eugene Cape, 64, of Statesville, received minor injuries.
The initial investigation does not indicate impairment or speed to be contributing factors in the collision. All occupants were restrained by seatbelts. US 70 was closed in the area for approximately four hours during the on-scene investigation.
Mojica was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, left of center, and driving while license revoked.
