Charlotte Funeral Home Director Urges Parents To Buy Life Insurance For Their Children

CHARLOTTE — It’s something no parent wants to think about – losing a child to gun violence.  But, unfortunately, many parents across the Carolinas have felt that grief recently.

The owner of a local funeral home has a sobering message to the parents of Charlotte’s youth — get life insurance for your child.  According to CMPD, 96 people in Charlotte lost their lives to homicide in 2023.  17 of those victims were younger than 20 years old.

Tito Truesdale, the owner and founder of The House of Rosadale Funeral Parlor in Charlotte, has been in business for 15 years.  But, never before has he seen so many of Charlotte’s youth fall victim to homicide.

He says many families can’t pay to bury their own children.

“They can’t pay me, and they don’t have any resources and no one to help them,” says Truesdale.

“The first thing they say is we’re gonna need to do a Gofundme or a fish fry to handle the business because they didn’t have life insurance,” says Will Adams, community activist.

Funerals are expensive – costing families anywhere from 3 thousand up to 100 thousand dollars.

Truesdale is encouraging every parent to get life insurance for themselves as well as for their children.

“You got to have it now.  The reason I know, is because I have it on my own children,” he says.

Some life insurance policies can cost as little as 30 dollars a month.  Truesdale says it guarantees you a peace of mind and stress relief to have life insurance.
