GASTONIA, N.C. – A firefighter was taken to the hospital Saturday evening after falling through the floor while battling a house fire in south Gastonia.
The fire started around 6 p.m. on Forbes Road.
While crews attempted to control the fire, one firefighter fell through the floor of the house. A ‘Mayday’ call was issued at that time.
The firefighter was treated on-scene but was later transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The firefighter was released from the hospital around midnight.
Officials said the house was a total loss. The homeowner was home when the fire started but was safely evacuated.
No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
