Police Investigating Fatal Officer-Involved Crash In Gastonia

GASTONIA, N.C. – One person was killed and a police officer was injured in a car crash late Saturday night while the officer was responding to a shooting in Gastonia.

It happened just after 10 p.m. on Saturday, February 25th.

According to the Gaston County Police Department, an officer was responding to a shooting on Davis Road near Bessemer City. While heading to this location, the officer was involved in a car crash with another driver near West Franklin Boulevard and Webb Street.

The driver of the other vehicle was killed, and the officer was taken to the hospital.

“We are heartbroken for the family,” Chief Stephen Zill said. “Our thoughts are with the all those affected by this incident. We ask for the community to keep the family and our officer in their thoughts as we work though the investigation.”

Officials said that the officer responding was using a siren and had their blue lights on when the wreck occurred.

One person suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the shooting. Police said the shooting was a result of an argument between family members. There is not a threat to the general public at this time.

No arrests have been made, as well.

The crash is under investigation by the Gastonia Police Department. An interview review of the incident is also underway by the Gaston County Police Department.
