Discussion:
A series of disturbances will produce scattered showers and gusty winds across the region today. Although it will be cloudy with patchy fog, temps will climb a few degrees above average into the mid 60s. Temps won’t fall much tonight. Ahead of a strong cold front, highs will climb into the low 70s across the Piedmont. It will be windy with gusts 40+ mph. Although the severe threat is low, it isn’t zero with damaging wind gusts the greatest threat. Once the storms pass east of the region, between 6-8pm, temps will fall dramatically with overnight lows dropping into the low to mid 30s. This combined with gusty northwest winds will lead to bitter cold wind chills Thursday morning. A wind advisory will be likely for the mountains Wednesday night into Thursday with gusts 50-60 mph possible. We’ll stay dry Thursday, but an unsettled pattern will set up Friday and linger into the weekend.
