No Charges Will Be Filed In Homicide Near University City

The Latest:

After a lengthy investigation, detectives with the CMPD say no one will face charges in the shooting death of 36-year-old Dontarious Simpson. The shooting was classified as a justified homicide, according to CMPD.

The Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office has consulted with CMPD’s Homicide Unit and concurs with the detectives’ decision not to charge anyone in this case.

No other details have been released at this time.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – One person was shot and killed in a north Charlotte shooting near the University City area on Tuesday night.

The victim was identified as 36-year-old Dontarious Jerelly Simpson. Police said they are not searching for any suspects at this time.

The shooting happened on Tuesday night around 10:30 p.m. on Berkeley Hill Drive near West Mallard Creek Church Road.

Police said Simpson was suffering from a gunshot wound and was later pronounced dead at the scene by MEDIC.
