17-Year-Old Killed In Three-Vehicle Collision In Caldwell County

LENOIR, N.C. – A 17-year-old died on US 64 in Caldwell County after crossing the centerline and colliding head-on with an oncoming car, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28th.

The 17 year old, identified as Justin Nicholas Ray, was driving east on US 64 in a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu. Authorities said that Ray crossed the centerline and hit a westbound 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 head-on.

This collision caused a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox to hit a piece of debris from the Malibu before crashing into it.

Police said that excessive speed was a contributing factor in the crash.

Ray died at the scene as a result of the crash.

Myron Wesley Dula, 63, operating the Silverado, was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Two occupants in the Equinox sustained minor injuries.

No charges will be filed in this case, authorities said.
