Mooresville Fire Fighters Save A Man From A Burning Car
MOORESVILLE – Captain Heath McCormick, firefighter Jacob Terrance, and engineer Scott Hauck were wrapping up a day of training.
It was their night to make dinner at Fire Station 5 in Mooresville.
When they pulled into the parking lot of the Food Lion off exit 33, they spotted something out of place.
“My engineer advised me that there was some abnormal black smoke coming from behind the the building to our left,” says McCormick. “I looked up, he was correct, so we decided we would go over and investigate.”
A red F-150 was on fire just outside of the Hangar 33 bar.
The crew immediately jumped into action, regardless of not being dressed in any of their gear. While preparing to put the fire out, the crew was alerted to something more urgent.
“Somebody said, there’s someone in the car, there’s someone in the car. They’re trapped,” said Terrance. “We said ‘all right, now it’s time to go save a life, we got to get it in gear and get them out first.'”
Engineer Hauck says everything changed in that moment.
“I went into the back of the truck and Terrance was in the front,” he said, “and we just worked on getting the victim from the front driver out the rear passenger door.”
Terrance and Hauck were able to remove the man from the car. Captain McCormick says he is so proud of his crew.
“They didn’t think about themselves,” he said. “They didn’t think about anything at that point other than getting the subject out of the vehicle. It makes me extremely proud.”
