Seven Gang Suspects Charged In Drive-By Shootings In Union County
UNION COUNTY, N.C. – Seven gang suspects, five of whom are juveniles, were charged in connection to four separate drive-by shootings from October of 2023 in Union County, according to authorities.
Authorities said that the suspects, mostly juveniles, would steal a car from homes and use the vehicle to execute a drive-by shooting. The suspects allegedly stole four vehicles and shot into five homes and one car in the four separate shootings.
Officials said that no one was injured in any of the shootings. However, all four homes were occupied at the time of the shootings.
After an extensive investigation into the case, police have arrested and charged seven suspects in connection to the shooting and other crimes.
Two suspects, 22-year-old Jhony Vergara-Torres and 18-year-old Tahaj Moser, are currently being held at the Union County Detention Center.
Four of the juveniles are in custody at a local detention center. The fifth juvenile is not currently in custody but still faces multiple criminal charges, authorities said.
The charges against the seven suspects include but are not limited to the following:
- Attempted Murder
- Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling
- Motor Vehicle Theft
- Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
- Evidence Tampering
- Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle
Additional charges are expected as the investigation continues, the sheriff’s office said.
