Inmate Death Investigation In Rock Hill

ROCK HILL – Officers with the Rock Hill Police Department found a 58-year-old inmate unresponsive in his cell around 3 a.m. Tuesday.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were notified as officers began to render medical aid.

Upon arrival, EMS pronounced the inmate dead. The Rock Hill Police Department contacted State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) to conduct an independent investigation into the incident.

The Rock Hill Police Department is conducting an internal investigation into the incident as well. The inmate had been in custody since the afternoon of March 4, 2024, for the charge of Shoplifting.
