CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — Troopers say a 14-year-old was killed after he was struck by a Freightliner truck while riding a makeshift skateboard in Catawba County.
Investigators say the teen was riding on the makeshift skateboard on March 5th just before 4pm when he exited his driveway on Caleb Road and was struck by the truck.
The juvenile was critically injured and transported to Atrium Health Lincoln where he died from his injuries, according to a news release.
The driver of the Freightliner and his passenger were not injured. Troopers say the initial investigation does not indicate impairment or speed to be contributing factors in the collision.
Troopers say no charges will be filed in the case against the driver. The teen has not been identified by officials.
