Suspect Arrested In California In Murder Of Missing Mother And Her Two Children

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The suspect wanted, in connection to the deaths of a mother and her two young children, was arrested by police in California, CMPD announced Sunday.

Benjamin Joseph Taylor, 35, was spotted in Imperial County just outside of San Diego, California on Saturday, March 16th. He is charged with three counts of murder and one count of concealment of death.

Taylor is being held in the Imperial County Jail while waiting for extradition back to North Carolina.

Police notified the victim’s family of the arrest.

Authorities have not released a potential motive for the killings.

The remains of 22-year-old Markayla Johnson and her two children, four-year-old Miracle and seven-month-old Messiah, were found in a northeast Charlotte apartment on Friday afternoon. They were reported missing to police on March 3rd and were last seen in the same apartment complex.
