ROCK HILL, S.C. — A woman from Lancaster is behind bars after police say her new born baby died two hours after the infant was born. The baby tested positive for Fentanyl and Methamphetamine, according to officials with the Rock Hill Police Department.
Investigators say the infant died on August 28, 2023. Detectives received the pathologist’s report in February, which determined the infant tested positive for the drugs.
The mother of the child, 31-year-old Jessica Medlin, did not have prescriptions for the drugs found present in the infant, according to a news release.
On March 18, 2024, Medlin was arrested by the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office and transported to the Rock Hill Police Department where she was served with a warrant for unlawful conduct towards a child resulting in death.
