Cookout Restaurant Employee Describes Moments Leading Up To Deadly Shooting

THE LATEST:

Kwame Hayes says the night began as just another night on the job.  The 33-year-old was standing just a few feet away from his friend, Jaselyn Horne, when gunshots were fired inside the Cookout Restaurant on Sunset Road early Sunday morning.

“I remember just being there in front of Jaselyn, some words got exchanged, and next thing I know I heard three gunshots,” says Hayes.

He says everyone ran for cover.  He and two other employees locked themselves in the bathroom until CMPD arrived on the scene.  When they walked out they saw Horne lying on the floor dead.

Other witnesses say the argument started over cleaning duties.  The employees had closed the restaurant for the night, and they were in the process of cleaning up before clocking out.

Horne leaves behind two sons.
