Homicide Suspect Charged With Murder, Kidnapping

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The suspect in connection to Thursday night’s homicide was charged with murder and kidnapping after leading police on a chase overnight.
Police said Dean Antonio Tate, 48, knew the victim, and that this was a targeted attack. A witness to the crime told police that Tate tried to kidnap her following the shooting, but she fought him off. Tate left the area before police arrived.
Officers increased their presence near the witness’ location while patrolling officers attempted to find Tate.
Police spotted Tate’s vehicle in the early morning hours on Friday, March 22nd. Tate allegedly refused to pull over and initiated a vehicle pursuit with the officers.
Tate led officers on a chase that ended in a parking lot at the Law Enforcement Center in Uptown at 601 East Trade Street. There, he surrendered to officers and was taken into custody without further incident.
Tate has been charged with first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping and discharging a firearm into occupied property.
Robert Long, 53, was identified as the victim in the shooting.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – One person is dead after a deadly shooting in west Charlotte on Thursday night.
It happened in the 8000 block of Scottview Drive near Andrew Jackson Highway just after 6:30 p.m.
When officers arrived, they located a victim with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Authorities said the victim and suspect knew each other. This is considered an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the general public.
This shooting is still under investigation.
