Charlotte Fire Department Looking To Hire More Than 100 Firefighters

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Fire Department is accepting applications for its firefighter recruit program. Charlotte Fire seeks highly motivated and diverse candidates to join its world-class organization in a rewarding career that makes a difference in the community.

Charlotte Fire wants to hire more than 100 firefighters to maintain its level of service to residents. As Charlotte remains one of the fastest growing cities in the country, additional firefighters ensure Charlotte Fire’s ability to keep up with our growing city.

“We are looking for individuals who want to lead and serve this great city of ours in one of the most fulfilling, public-facing roles on our team,” said Charlotte Fire Chief Reginald Johnson. “The people of this community depend on us day and night to respond in their moments of critical need.”

Charlotte Fire recruits are paid, full-time employees with a complete City of Charlotte benefits package beginning on day one of recruit school. Once a candidate is selected for hire and placed into a class, recruit school lasts approximately six months.

The career path for an entry-level firefighter provides several opportunities to advance into special operations areas including a dive and boat team, rescue crews, hazardous materials specialists, helicopter-aquatic rescue and more.

Charlotte Fire has more than 1,150 dedicated personnel who protect the lives and property of more than 892,000 residents serving at 43 firehouses including two at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
