CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an in-custody death for one of its inmates in Uptown Charlotte.
Officials say that 42-year-old Renny Mobley was found unresponsive around 4:56 a.m. on Wednesday, March 27th.
Officers on-site administered life-saving aid until emergency medical personnel arrived.
Mobley was transported by EMS to Atrium Main where he was declared dead at 5:18 p.m.
“It is with a heavy heart that I must share the news of the passing of Mr. Mobley, a resident within our facility,” Sheriff McFadden said. “This loss is a somber reminder of the fragility of life. We recognize that Mr. Mobley had loved ones outside these walls, and our deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.
The State Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation into Mobley’s death while the medical examiner will determine the cause.
