Man Hospitalized From Crash During Police Chase

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A Lancaster man is in critical condition after crashing his vehicle during a police chase on Friday morning.

Troopers say they attempted to stop a 2011 Toyota Corolla on US 321 in Lincoln County for speeding. The driver, identified as 28-year-old Justin Hinson allegedly refused to stop, initiating a vehicle chase.

Hinson reportedly travelled on US 321 for approximately five miles at a speed of up to 115 mph, according to a news release.

Troopers say Hinson attempted to exit off onto Gastonia Highway but lost control of the vehicle striking several trees, falling down an embarkment, and became entrapped in the vehicle.

Hinson was extracted by responding members of the South Fork Fire Department and Lincoln County EMS. He was transported by medical helicopter to Atrium Health in Charlotte, in critical condition.
