CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The daughter of local radio host Bo Thompson has passed away. 20-year-old Janey Thompson was a sophomore at Wake Forest University, majoring in biophysics. Her father co-hosts Good Morning BT with Bo Thompson and Beth Troutman on WBT Radio. WBT released a statement that says Janey passed away Tuesday evening after suffering complications from a blood clot.
Janey graduated from Myers Park High School in 2022. In a social media post, a representative for the high school says she had a blood clot in her leg that traveled to her heart.Janey was a member of the National Society of Physics Students, part of the Wake Forest women’s club basketball team and a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority.
WBT also says, “The WBT and Radio One family are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Bo Thompson’s daughter, Janey. There are no words to provide adequate comfort under these circumstances, but we are committed to supporting Bo and his family in any way possible during this difficult time. We know that the WBT community of listeners joins us in prayers for the Thompson family.”
The radio station’s statement also says about Janey, “Brilliant and athletic, with an incredible work ethic, she was awarded the Randall Ledford Scholarship in Physics and the Porter Byrum Scholarship at Wake.
She volunteered for the Isabella Santos Foundation and served as a student assistant at a Footbridge clinic, providing free dental care to local veterans.
Known for her infectious smile and big heart, Janey was a light in this world and still is. The family has yet to announce arrangements to honor her life.”
Janey’s father, Bo, also produced WCCB News Edge from May 2009 to 2012. WCCB joins our community in heartbreak, as everyone who met Janey loved her. We send our deepest regards to Bo, Scottie and Hank. Funeral arrangements for Janey Thompson have not been announced.
