Repairs On Eastway Drive Bridge At Independence Boulevard Begin April 21st

The Latest:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (News Release) — Repairs to the bridge taking Wendover Road/Eastway Drive over Independence Boulevard will get underway Sunday night at 9 p.m., weather permitting. The bridge was damaged from a crash earlier in the week.

To complete the work safely, N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews will close the two left lanes on U.S. 74 West and the exit ramp from U.S. 74 East to Wendover Road. A lane will also be closed on the bridge while repairs are made to the pedestrian handrail and damaged concrete is replaced.

It is possible the lane closures will shift during the course of repairs, but all lanes should open by 6 a.m. Monday. Depending on progress, another night of closures may be needed.

Drivers should stay alert and use caution driving through the work area. This schedule is weather dependent and subject to change. For real-time travel information, visit DriveNC.gov or follow NCDOT on social media.
