ROCK HILL, S.C. — York County residents are picking up the pieces after a significant hailstorm rolled through the area Saturday afternoon.

The storm, packing gusty winds and hail the size of tennis balls, damaged hundreds of cars and buildings as it carved its way through Rock Hill. Severe warnings stretched from Cleveland County, NC, to Chesterfield County, SC, but the worst damage appears to be focused in northeast-central York County. The video below comes from Art Thomas, where his car and house sustained considerable damage from the wind and hail.

Photos sent in from residents resembled scenes from a snow day in Rock Hill, as inches of hail accumulated on streets and in yards.

A gas station awning collapsed just south of downtown along SC Highway 72, showing how strong the winds with this particular storm.

Multiple trees were reported down in Gaston County, including this one that fell onto a house on Dallas Spencer Mountain Road in Dallas.

Fortunately, the severe threat clears out this Saturday evening. More rain is in the forecast on Sunday, but severe weather will not impact the WCCB Charlotte viewing area.
