HEATH SPRINGS, S.C. – A Lancaster County man received a second life sentence after being found guilty of stabbing a 54-year-old woman to death in May of 2016.
A jury found Arkevus Cauthen, 36, guilty and sentenced him to life in prison without parole on Friday, April 19th.
On May 24th, 2016, Sandra Johnson, 54, was found dead with multiple stab wounds in her Heath Springs home by her daughter. Officials said family members had not heard from Johnson since May 20th and were concerned for her.
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation into her death. They said they found key evidence, including cell phone records and DNA, linking Cauthen to Johnson’s death.
An eyewitness also saw Cauthen near Johnson’s home on the evening of her death, officials said.
Cauthen was handed a guilty verdict for murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Cauthen was already serving a life sentence for the murder and armed robbery of John “Hardy” Duncan. Officials said both murders happened within a week of each other and that Duncan also died from multiple stab wounds.
