52-Year-Old Man Killed In Shooting Involved With An Officer In York County

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating the shooting of a 52-year-old man by a police officer, according to a news release.

The release states that York County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call in Rock Hill that involved Richard Zonjic, 52. The Sheriff’s Office claims they obtained warrants for Zonjic for first degree domestic violence and kidnapping and attempted to serve them to Zonjic who barricaded himself inside the home, where deputies pent hours requesting Zonjic to peacefully surrender.

The Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team responded to the situation and a member of the team, Deputy Daniel Barfield, shot Zonjic while he was armed with a baseball bat and engaged two deputies, as said in the release. The release further says that Zonjic was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Rock Hill on Sunday after deputies responded to a domestic violence incident, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.

It happened at a home on Ellis Pond Drive near Sturgis Road.

The York County Sheriff’s Office said no deputies were physically hurt. It is unclear if anyone else was injured in the incident.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating.
