Rowan County Man Dead In Fatal Crash Following An Altercation And Police Pursuit

CHINA GROVE, N.C. – A man died in a motorcycle crash after having an altercation with his ex-girlfriend at a Circle K and leading police on a vehicle pursuit, according to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.

It happened just before 10:25 p.m. on Tuesday night. Police were called to the Circle K gas station on North Main Street in China Grove about a suspect allegedly chasing people with a knife.

Officers were not able to locate the suspect in the area but obtained information about the incident from witnesses.Β 

Police said a man, identified as Jeremy Lee Roush, was having an altercation with his ex-girlfriend. A man attempted to step in and defuse the situation, but police said Roush pulled a knife on him.Β 

At this moment, Roush’s ex-girlfriend left the scene in her car with Roush following her.Β 

Officers said they located Roush on a motorcycle behind his ex-girlfriend’s vehicle at the intersection of Church and Main Street. A vehicle pursuit began after Roush refused to stop for the officers’ blue lights and siren.

The pursuit lasted just over one mile before Roush lost control of his motorcycle and crashed on Shue Road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Roush had two knives on him at the time of the crash.

The crash is under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
