Two Salisbury Shootings Leave Four People Injured Just Hours Apart
SALISBURY – Salisbury Police are still looking for answers following two separate shootings, just hours apart and only three minutes away from one another.
βIt’s very frustrating that the community is impacted by this senseless violence. And we need the community members that saw it to step up and tell us,β said Major T.J. Crews with the Salisbury Police.
In security camera video WCCB received from a neighbor, police are seen up to this home at 1205 South Main Street. This all happened just after 10pm Wednesday. When officers got inside, they found two women and a baby who had been shot. The baby and her mother were taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. The third victim was later released from the hospital.
A neighbor spoke with WCCBβs Emma Mondo off camera. She says she heard about five to six shots, and that this is the second shooting at this house, the first one was two years ago on Halloween night.
βI do know that she was screaming that the shooters came from across the railroad, and they shot into the back of her home,β said the neighbor.
That same afternoon around 4:30, a young girl was shot while walking at the intersection of Old Concord Road and Shaver Street. She was taken to a hospital in Winston Salem, but should be okay.
At a press conference Thursday, police say they do not believe the two shootings are connected. That doesnβt ease neighbors’ minds.
βI’m concerned and we are looking to relocate, we don’t want this.β
These shootings follow two others last week. On April 13th, 26 year old Shaleek Williams was shot at a memorial at Jersey City Park in Salisbury and later died. On the 14th, 21 year old Alyssia Salter was shot on Old Wilkesboro Road. She also died at the hospital. Police are concerned about the growing crime in their city.
βWe realize there were other crimes over the past two weeks. We have strong leads in each of these cases, and our detectives are working around the clock to solve these crimes,β says Major Crews.
WCCB did confirm with police that the mother and her infant from last nightβs shooting are now in stable condition. There have been no arrests in any of these four shootings, but police say they are working with state and federal partners to find answers. They are also asking for the community to help by coming forward with any information.
